For over 15 years the Union and CORCA have advised and worked with the All Party Parliamentary Group for Non-Profit Making Members' Clubs.  This All Party Group consists of 187 members from the House of Commons and House of Lords and meets to discuss issues affecting registered clubs.  Members of CORCA attend the meeting to put the views of the 5,000 non-profit making members' clubs it represents.

The Union has always been non-political and realised for many years that we had friends as parliamentarians in all parties.  In 1983 the Union President persuaded a number of parliamentarians to form a group to look after the interests of all non-profit making members' clubs, not just those within the CIU.

Lord Brooks of Tremorfa became the Secretary of the Group and is still in that position.   He advised the Union that they should also work with the other club groups and the idea of the umbrella group CORCA (Committee of Registered Clubs Associations) was formed.

ELECTIONS FOR OFFICERS AND EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEMBERS OF THE GROUP WERE HELD IN NOVEMBER 2002.   THOSE ELECTED ARE AS FOLLOWS:

JOINT CHAIRMEN - DENNIS TURNER MP (Lab) & RT HON GREG KNIGHT MP (Con)

JOINT VICE CHAIRMAN - DAVID CHIDGEY (Lib)

JOINT VICE CHAIRMAN/TREASURER - DAVID CLELLAND MP (Lab)

SECRETARY - LORD BROOKS OF TREMORFA

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE - RT HON ALAN BEITH (LibDem), DAVID HAMILTON MP (Lab), SIMON BURNS (Con)

The Officers and Group have been active in the proposed changes to the Gaming and Licensing Acts.

THE GROUP NOW HAS OVER 200 MEMBERS AND CONTINUES TO GROW IN STRENGTH.
